Viziunea marxist-comunistă asupra istoriei este profund marcată de obsesia ocultării factorului regal din procesul unionist românesc. Inevitabil această optică istoriografică, deopotrivă nefastă şi influentă, a infestat şi malformat profund cunoaşterea comună/publică privitoare la importantele evenimente din jurul anului 1918. Urmarea este că destui români elaborează percepţii confuze, eronate, inconsistente cu privire la funcţia Familiei Regale în crearea României Unite.
Or, dacă ne luăm dispoziţia de a privi înspre realitate, aşa cum a fost, vom constata că, de la fondarea sa în anul 1866, Casa Regală a fost un important generator de ideal naţional-statal românesc, în sensul definirii, asumării şi materializării acestuia.
Restrângând această succintă analiză la Epoca Unirii, devine relativ simplu de probat că Regele Ferdinand şi Regina Maria au fost complet ataşaţi, am putea spune chiar subjugaţi, interesului naţional. În Consiliul de Coroană din august 1916, Regele Ferdinand a fost principalul susţinător al intrării ţării în război de partea Antantei. Pledoaria suveranului a fost emoţionantă dar şi surprinzătoare pentru că, în esenţă, era îndreptată şi împotriva ţării sale natale, Imperiul German. Mai târziu, în primăvara anului 1918, Guvernul României, aflat în refugiu la Iaşi, era nevoit să semneze o pace separată cu Puterile Centrale. Având de suportat diferite presiuni (chiar ameninţări), Regele Ferdinand a găsit resursele de curaj necesare pentru a refuza ratificarea Tratatului de Pace de la Buftea-Bucureşti. După război, poziţia Regelui a dobândit o valoare juridico-diplomatică semnificativă permiţând autorităţilor de la Bucureşti să „pareze” anumite insinuari şi acuzaţii ale puterilor învingătoare cu privire la „chestiunea păcii separate” încheiate în 1918.
În anii deosebit de grei ai războiului, Regina Maria a devenit personalitatea emblematică a tragediei şi rezistenţei româneşti. Dobândind o enormă zestre de notorietate şi influenţă internaţională, în cadrul Conferinţei de la Paris, Regina Maria a avut o contribuţie apăsată în procesul decizional de recunoaştere a României Unite. Meritele speciale ale Reginei au fost recepţionate de către mediile diplomatice ale vremii dar şi de către ulterioare şi de referinţă reconstituiri istoriografice.
Cu deosebire, este de subliniat că Regele Ferdinand şi Regina Maria au fost personalităţile simbol ale Unirii Româneşti. Autoritatea statului român asupra noilor teritorii era afirmată la nivel public prin intermediul numeroaselor şi importantelor vizite regale intreprinse în provinciile unite în anii 1919-1920. Pe acelaşi teren al relevanţei simbolice, trebuie reţinut momentul special al încoronării de la Alba Iulia. Ceremonialul din 15 octombrie 1922 consacra Unirea teritoriilor locuite majoritar de către români sub autoritatea Coroanei. De altfel, stema reaglă, pe care autorităţile de astăzi în mod neînţeles evită să o recunoasca, realiza o inspirată proiecţie în registru heraldic a noii structuri teritoriale a României Întregite. Cred a nu fi exagerată observaţia că în anii 1918-1920, pentru cei mai mulţi dintre români, Marea Unire se articula la nivel perceptiv în jurul câtorva elemente aparţinătoare în mod special perimetrului regalităţii: Coroana şi Stema Regatului, Regele şi Regina.
Se poate constata că monarhia românească a fost unul dintre pilonii instituţionali şi simbolici centrali în jurul căroara s-a putut încheia cu succes Unirea tuturor românilor. Ca o dreaptă consecinţă ar fi necesar şi normal ca discursul centenar din anul acesta – prin diferitele sale componente (istoriografică, instituţională, mediatică, politică, civică) – să recunoască şi să aşeze în prim-plan rolul fundamental îndeplinit de familia noastră regală în Epoca Unirii şi în general în ultimul secol şi jumătate de istorie modernă românească. Rămânerea în proximitatea unui discurs istoric sau pseudoistoric demofil şi patriotard nu numai că este lipsită de folos dar este şi profund nocivă. Concomitent, Parlamentul României ar trebui să depăşească faza elanurilor ratate şi să voteze Legea Casei Regale, lămurind favorabil inclusiv dreptul de folosinţă al Palatului Elisabeta. În punctul acesta, pentru a scăpa de nefericita tentaţie a falselor vocalize – care bântuie periodic diferite site-uri, studiouri de televiziune sau chiar anumite conştiinţe mai mult sau mai puţin „regaliste” – nu ar trebui uitat că Majestatea Sa Margareta este strănepoata Regelui Ferdinand şi a Reginei Maria.
Pe de altă parte, clarificarea/consolidarea statutului Casei Regale nu este doar o necesitate care ţine de o potrivită înţelegere şi cinstire a trecutului. Într-o măsură cel puţin similară, este un obiectiv care îşi poate desluşi sensul în relaţie cu prezentul şi viitorul. Cu toţii suntem conştienţi că ne găsim într-o perioadă, ce pare fără de sfârşit, a irosirii de sine, a unei grave disoluţii instituţionale care afectează partidele politice, Parlamentul, Preşedinţia, justiţia, administraţia. Acest fenomen degenerativ zdruncină fundamentele regimului democratic, dar şi puţinul care ne-a mai rămas din simţămintele identitare de altădată. Într-o asemenea atmosferă – înnegurată, conflictuală până la demenţă, marcată de semnele unei periculoase instabilităţi – Familia Regală reuşeşte să rămână un loc în care viaţa se rânduieşte diferit. Exprimarea publică, la nivel discursiv şi comportamental, se situează la standarde remarcabile, cu totul comparabile cu ceea ce se întâmplă în cele mai elevate societăţi ale lumii civilizate. Ataşamentul pentru ceea ce reprezintă ţara românească, pentru identitatea noastră, pentru interesele naţiunii române, este unul fără cusur şi consecvent în durata lungă a parcursului istoric.
Având şansa de a ne afla într-un an special, acela al centenarului, ne-am putea lua un vindecător timp de relecţie. L-am putea folosi pentru a (re)înţelege rolul pe care regalitatea l-a îndeplinit în istoria românească pe direcţia dezvoltării naţionale şi identitare, a modernizării şi europenizării. Acelaşi timp de analiză şi de reaşezare a gândurilor, ne-ar putea releva observaţia că în situaţia unei crize severe, Casa Regală ar putea reprezenta substanţial mai mult decât suntem dispuşi să ne imaginăm. Foarte probabil ar fi una dintre singurele opţiuni de care ne-am putea „agăţa” având dorinţa de a rămâne pe un traseu al dezvoltării şi echilibrului, care nu poate însemna altceva decât democraţie, europenizare, dar şi o demnă reînsuşire (fireşte într-o formă actualizată) a patrimoniului identitar românesc.
